Coaching & Consulting

"Finally, if you're interested in learning the writing process from start to finish, the educator in me enjoys working with clients as a writing coach. I have taught writing (both fiction and non-fiction) at the secondary and post-secondary level and am prepared to walk you through your project step-by-step.

I offer a ten-week course tailored specifically to your project, or you can move at your own pace relying on regular coaching, consultation, feedback, editing, and project management from me.

I enjoy this sort of work a great deal, and I have seen many writers experience the satisfaction and joy that comes with completing a major writing project. I am also available from time-to-time to provide individual coaching and tutoring sessions on an hourly basis. Contact Ret

"Regardless of what project or timeline you have in mind, the first step is for us to sit-down in person, on the phone or electronically and discuss your goals and the scope of the proposed project. The consultation meeting is completely free for you (unless significant travel expenses are involved), and confidentiality about your project is absolutely guaranteed. After our initial meeting, you will receive a written contract from my office within one week for you to consider. I look forward to discussing your project however big or small it may be."

Fees and Policies

The exact fees for a given project vary widely depending on the scope and the terms upon which we agree. Generally project work and individual coaching sessions are billed between $50 and $80 per hour with a minimum of four hours on most projects. Larger projects (such as ghost-writing and extended coaching) usually range from $850 per week to $8,000 or more for a completed, book-length manuscript (roughly 80,000 words).

The cost of the project is always outlined clearly in the contract, and no additional expenses will be incurred without your explicit authorization. Payment is due at the time services are rendered for smaller jobs (such as individual coaching sessions). For larger jobs (such as a feature-length article or a book-length manuscript), an advance of between 25- and 50-percent is due before work begins on the project.
